SNOWMEN TREK – I

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive Paro
On arrival at Paro airport, you will be received by our representative and take you for sightseeing and transferred to your hotel in Paro.
 
Day 2
Thimphu Sightseeing

After breakfast, drive for sightseeing in Thimphu Valley (Buddha point, Memorial Chorten, Heritage museum, Changangkha temple, Zorig Chusum and Takin zoo) and Simply Bhutan Museum. By evening Thimphu city tour and night in Thimphu

Day 3
Thimphu- Punakha/Tashithang
Drive to Punakha vai Dochulapass (3000m) through a magnificent forest of rhododendrons and magnolia. From the pass you can have a panoramic view of Himalayan ranges on a clear day. Along the way, we can visit to Punakha Dzong and then we drive to Tashithang (camp site)
 
Day 4
Tashithang–Damji (23 Km, Approximately 5hrs)
The trek starts by the riverside following a well made path through semi-tropical forest. This part of the area is quite wet and one has to be careful of leeches and we gradually climb up to the Damji village (camp site) at 2200m.
 
Day 5
Damji – Gasa (10 Km, Approximately 3hrs)
The path continues through semi-tropical forest and villages up to Gasa Tsachu (hot spring). After that we will hike to Gasa Dzong and our camp will be near Dzong (2900m).
 
Day 6
Gasa–Koina (14km Km, Approximately 4hrs)
In the morning, we will make a visit to Dzong and we start our journey by climbing to Bele-la pass (3700m) through bamboo, rhododendrons and fir forest. Then the path descends as we hike to our camp site Koina (3600m).
 
Day 7
Koina – Laya (19 Km, Approximately 5hrs)
The trail starts by descending to the bank of Mo-chu River and then we climb gradually to Laya crossing the army camp. Overnight at Laya (3800m)
 
Day 8
Rest Day At Laya (Optional)
One can visit the village and interact with the people of that village. They are very friendly and every guest will be welcomed with their warm hearts. They wear different sects of dress and cultural program in the evening.
 
Day 9
Laya – Rhodophu (19 Km, Approximately 5hrs)
From Laya, descend to army camp and continue following the river till the turn off point to Rhodophu. From there we gradually climb up through the bushes of rhododendrons till our camp site (4300m)
Day 10
Rhodophu - Narithang(17 Km, Approximately 5hrs)
From Rhodophu we will start our journey crossing Tsimola pass to Narithang and on the way we can have a great view of mountain peaks. Our camp site will be at Nrithang (camp site at 4500m)
Day 11
Narithang - Tarina(18km, Approximately 5hrs)
The walk leads down through very pleasant with wonderful views mountains peaks and conifers forest following the upper reaches of pho-chuh River. Then we climb the ridges and pass the Ganglakarchula and halt at Tarina (4600m).
 
day 12
Tarina - Wochu (17km, Approximately 4hrs)

The trek starts from Tarina and descends down to Wochu with the beautiful views of mountain peaks. Overnight halt at Wochu (3900m)

Day 13
Wochu - Lhedi (17km, Approximately 4hrs)

The trek starts through juniper and fir forest which further leads to rhododendrons bushes. We climb up to Keche-la pass (4400m) and then we descend to the riverside walking through the village with stunning view of Table Mt. Overnight at Lhedi village (3600m)

Day 14
Lhedi - Thangza (17km, Approximately 4hrs)

The trek continues following the river rising gradually to Choejong village. Then we walk through the wide valley of Choejung village and reach to camp site (4000m)

Day 15
Rest Day At Thangza
One can walk around or climb the ridges for a fascinating view of lakes and mountains
 
Day 16
Thanza - Tshorim (17km, Approximately 4hrs)
The trek starts by climbing the ridge with great view of the Table Mt. and Thanza valley. Then we hike through the ridges (4500m) and we walk upwards the left side of the bridge enjoying the view of snow capped mountains. Overnight at Tshorim (5100m)
 
Day 17
Tshorim – Gangkar Puensum Base Camp (15km, Approximately 4hrs)
This is one of the highlight of the trip and then day starts with a short climb to the Tshorim Lake. After that walking along the ridges enjoying the great view of Gangkar Puensum and overnight at base (4900m)
 
Day 18
Gangkar Puensum – Menchugang (16km, Approximately 4hrs)
The trail further follows the Sha-chu and descends gradually to Menchugang (4200m). Overnight at Menchugang
 
Day 19
Menchugang–Warathang(11km, Approximately 3hrs)
The trek follows the Sha-chu until we begin climbing to Sakala begins (4800m) and descends to the lakes enjoying the view of mountains peaks. Overnight at Warathang (4000m)
 
Day 20
Warathang – DhurTshachu (13km, Approximately 3hrs)
We start the trek by climbing to Juelala pass (4400m) and then descend to the river side through dense of rhododendrons, junipers and conifer forest. Then after the bridge, a short walk leads to Dhur hot spring.
 
Day 21
Dhur – Tshochenchen (18km, Approximately 5hrs)
From the hot spring, it’s another long and steady climb again with the great view of mountains in Lunana and blue lake. Overnight at Tshochenchen
 
Day 22
Tshochenchen - Lungsum (15km, Approximately 4hrs)

From Tshonchenchen the trek start in the morning and it descends down to Lungsum. Overnight at Lungsum

Day 23
Lungsum – Gorsum (12km, Approximately 3hrs)

From Lungsum the trek start in the morning through conifer forest and it descends down to Gorsum. Overnight at Gorsum

Day 24
Gorsum – Dur Village (18km, Approximately 5hrs)
We will hike down Dur village from Gorsum and overnight halt at Dur village.
 
Day 25
Dhur – Bumthang (22km, Approximately 8hrs)

The last day of trek where the path follows the Chamkhar-chu descending gradually with few climbs and the trek ends when you reach to Bumthang valley. From there you will be picked by your car. Overnight at Bumthang

Day 26
Bumthang Sightseeing

In the morning visit to 17th century Jakar Dzong and Kurjey temple, Tamshing Lhakhang, Kenchosum Lhakhang, Jampa Lhakhang, Lhodra Kharchu Monastery and town tour. Overnight at Bumthang

Day 27
Bumthang – Trongsa

Drive to Trongsa and after lunch visit to Trongsa Ta-Dzong (watch tower) and visit to Trongsa Dzong which is ancestral abode of Bhutan’s royal family. Overnight at Trongsa

Day 28
Trongsa - Paro

Drive to Paro en route lunch.

Day 29
Paro Sightseeing
Hike to Taktsang (Tiger Nest). Then visit to Kyichu temple (one of the oldest temples built in 7th century by Tibetan King Songtshen Gompo.
 
Day 30
Depart From Paro Airport

After breakfast, drive to airport for flight to onward destination.
