trongsa

The commending Dzong is located along the Bumthang highway overlooking the gorge of the Mangde River. The temple was founded in (1541) 16^th century by Lama NgagiWangchuk and later the rulers of Trongsa district MinjurTempa built a Dzong in 1644 (the officials who was sent by Zhandrung to bring eastern region under central control). Following the years, the Dzong was enlarged by JIgmeNamgyel till 3^rd Kings. The Dzong is closely connected to the royal family where the first two hereditary kings ruled from this particular Dzong and tradition still dictates that the crown prince serves as TrongsaPenlop before inheriting the throne.

The watch tower (Ta-Dzong) above the TrongsaDzong was built after the death of Zhabdrung to protect from different invasion from outsiders as well as insiders. Later it was converted into museum and it houses the old artifacts which were kept in TrongsaDzong.

The Nepalese style stupa which was modeled from the great Boudanath Temple of Kathmandu in Nepal by Zidar who was the district ruler of Bhutan and good negotiator. It is located 2 hours away from Gangtey towards Wangdue and Trongsahighway by drive.
