WANGDUE PHODRANG
Gangtey is located on hill top overlooking the beautiful Phobjikha valley which is home to the endangered Blacked naked Cranes which will take 3 hours from wangduphodrang by drive. The Gangtey monastery is an important Nyingma sect school of Buddhism and is the main seat of the TertonPemaLingpa linage and it was founded in 15th century.
The Dzongwa built on a ridge that looks like sleeping elephant overlooking the convergence of two rivers and it was built by Zhanbdrung in 1638 and in 2012 it was razed completely by the fire.
It is located in Phobjikha village mainly to regulate and preserve the Blacked Naked Cranes when they arrive from Tibet in the month of November – February where Phobjikha is winter home for the birds (Blacked Naked Cranes).
